The first people to react were my parents.
To give them credit, they didn’t kick me out of the house or disown me.
They censored me, told me that they loved me but placed duct tape over my mouth and wrote “STRAIGHT” in a big black sharpie.
They told me not to tell anyone about my sexuality in case I “Embarrass myself when I realize I’m straight”. Although it was confusing, I guess I can be grateful that they weren’t mad.
I remember talking to a girl, a really pretty, smart, blue eyed, taken girl.
I had a couple drinks, and let it slip I was kind of jealous of how cute her girlfriend was – she was – very cute.
The girl laughed and drank from her rum and coke.
She asked me if I was a dyke (her words not mine) So I laughed and corrected her by saying I was bi. She patted my breast and asked in all seriousness “How can you like dick?”
I don’t know. I don’t know how I can I like anything?
Maybe it’s because I didn’t choose to be like this. I didn’t ask to
It’s the same for me, except their reaction is confusion, as opposed to shock or acceptance.
How can I like two genders?
God forbid you tell them about pansexuals and Asexuals, people might lose their minds.
I remember watching a tv show, the name of which movie I cannot remember because I changed the channel pretty quickly after the scene:
A boy and girl walk up to a young man with his hipster glasses and plaid scarf and bluntly ask him, “Are you gay or straight.” He just laughs and tells them “I’m bisexual”. the two are just confused and looked at each other. The Hipster Glasses looks at the two of them and asks “Was that not an option?”
No, Hipster Glasses, it’s not an option for people like us.
It should be an option because in some cases we can fall for someone of the opposite sex and be seen as straight.
But you know the truth.
The gender of the current love of your life is going to define how people see you.
Because the funny thing about bisexuality is you never know who you’re going to fall in love with. Man or Woman
But who we love will always define to people if you are straight or Gay and never anything else.
